Plot: In the action-comedy “Tropic Thunder,” Ben Stiller plays pampered action superstar Tugg Speedman, who is cast in the biggest, most expensive war movie ever produced. Another post from me, on what is otherwise, a dead day.  It’s been a decent weekend for music releases, but dry as a well seemingly for anything else.  FNT brings everyone the new album from emo rock superstars The Academy Is…, a few days before it’s released.  This is their third studio album, and in that time, they have built a very loyal fanbase.  So if this is your thing, check it out.

The Academy Is… is a band based in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. They were originally known as “The Academy”, but added the “Is…” in 2004, to avoid legal complications with other established bands already going under that name. They are signed to record label Fueled by Ramen and have released two full albums, Almost Here and Santi, and are preparing to release their third album, Fast Times at Barrington High, in August 2008.

XXL, usually fairly on top of the ball, is months late on this release, bringing it to us well late of it’s store date, which was in March.  But when it’s something this spectacular, it’s definitely better late than never.  Those who have seen some of my posts won’t be surprised to know that I’m a huge fan of classic soul.  And this might be one of the best collections ever.  I love the Gamble and Huff sound that they pumped out of Philadelphia in the 70s, and this something I would recommend without even looking at it.  Although I won’t be giving it it’s own post, I also highly recommend VA-Conquer_The_World-The_Lost_Soul_Of_Philadelphia_International_Records-2008-XXL.
